A 3-0 defeat to Peru was more in line with expectation and ensured group stage elimination before a strong end to their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Bulgaria, Maouhoub Ghazouani scoring the equaliser for the Lions of the Atlas.In the 1976 African Cup of Nations a side that featured defining contributions from keeper Mohamed Hamid Hazzaz, defender Mustapha Fetoui and free-scoring forward Ahmed Faras won the competition by finishing top of the final group stage, winning two of its games and drawing the other.Ahmed Faras scored 3 goals to finish as the tournament?s top scorer and Abdelaali Zahraoui contributed a couple of his own.
